Bakersfield's bats quiet until ninth in loss to San Jose

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

James Allen and the bullpen allowed just two runs over nine innings, but the Bakersfield Blaze's rally in the ninth inning fell short in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the San Jose Giants at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

The Blaze got just five hits on the game with San Jose starter Kevin Marte and reliever Jose Casilla only allowing three over eight innings. Bakersfield got on the board in the ninth, when Yovan Gonzalez reached on an error, Junior Arias picked up a hit, and Steve Selsky drove both in with one of his two hits on the night.

Arias also had two hits and a double, while Juan Duran picked up a hit.

The Blaze were just 1 for 5 with runners in scoring position Saturday.

Allen went five and struck out no one allowing just two runs. Joey Housey went three innings in relief struck out two.

Brooks Pinckard struck out two in one inning of work.
