Aplin collects tying, winning hits against Blaze

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

LANCASTER -- Andrew Aplin hit a game-winning double to right field in the ninth inning to score Nolan Fontana as the Lancaster JetHawks defeated the Bakersfield Blaze 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at the Hangar.

Bakersfield, which took a 2-1 second-inning lead on a Chris Berset solo home run, won the first two games in the series before Lancaster won the weekend games.

Dominic D'Anna gave Bakersfield a 5-4 lead in the seventh inning with a three-run home run, his third of the season. Aplin tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single off Brian Pearl before winning it in the ninth with the double off Kyle McMyne.

Bakersfield starter Jonathan Moscot allowed three runs (two earned) over 52/3 innings.

Michael Gilmartin went 2-for-4 with two doubles for the Blaze (5-13), which have won four of seven.

Bakersfield has an off day today before opening a three-game series at High Desert on Tuesday.
