Local report: Patel likely needs low final round for PGA card

LA QUINTA -- Bakersfield High graduate Bhavik Patel shot 2-under 70 on Sunday, falling into a tie for 39th after the fifth round of the PGA Tour qualifying tournament.
The final top 25 and ties in the six-day event receive 2013 PGA Tour cards and the next 50 and ties earn Web.com Tour cards.
Patel, 13-under overall, has shot under-par each day, but is two shots off the current cutline (15-under) entering the final round.
Patel, who entered Sunday in 33rd place, birdied three of four par-5s on PGA West's Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course, but was 1-over on the last seven holes.
Australia's Steven Bowditch shot 8-under 64 to take a one-stroke lead at 23-under. Two-time heart transplant recipient Erik Compton was tied for 15th (17-under) after a 67. Tom Pernice, the oldest player in the field at 53, was 17-under after a 68.
Camilo Villegas, a three-time PGA Tour winner, is in a tie for 46th at 12-under.

Cerritos beat Santiago Canyon, 2-0, for the women's state title.
