VISALIA -- Despite starter Shane Dyer getting roughed up in the fourth inning, Bakersfield got 5-1/3 innings of clean relief from its bullpen and some timely hitting in the fifth and eighth innings to beat the Rawhide, 7-4, Friday night.
Dyer lasted just 3-2/3 innings allowing four runs, but Brooks Pinckard, Sean Lucas, Jimmy Moran and Carlos Gonzalez combined to allow no runs and three hits the rest of the way.
Juan Duran had his 16th homer, part of a three-hit night, and Juan Silverio added two hits.
BC volleyball opens at home tournament
The Bakersfield College women's volleyball team opens its season with a four-team tournament today at B.C.
The Renegades, coming off a 22-6 season last year, take on San Diego Mesa at 10 a.m. and face Grossmont College at 2 p.m. Santa Barbara City College faces Grossmont at 10 a.m and San Diego Mesa at 2 p.m.
"We are very excited about opening the season at home with such high caliber competition," said B.C. coach Carl Ferreira. "All four teams are consistent Top 20 teams in the state, Ferreira said. "I like how our team has come together throughout fall camp."
Former CSUB hoops coach out at San Jose
SAN JOSE -- San Jose State women's basketball coach Tim La Kose resigned Friday for personal reasons.
La Kose went 11-19 in each of his two seasons at the school. He came to San Jose State after 10 years at Cal State Bakersfield, where the Roadrunners went 211-89. He also was 136-67 in eight seasons at California Lutheran.
CSUB volleyball opens with two wins on road
DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team opened with two wins at the Wildcat Classic, beating UNC-Charlotte 25-17, 28-30, 25-15, 29-27, an Charleston Southern 25-13, 25-15, 25-16.
Senior Debora Araujo led all 'Runners with 30 kill, while Molly O'Hagan posted in with 24 kills of her own. Fernanda GonÃ§alves and Lisa Bartsch combined for a total of 101 assists.
