American Kids Sports Center
The Level 8 team won the title at their season-opening competition. The team of Luke Tomlinson, Tyler Weiner, Wade Froehlich and Spenser Prow placed first at the Southern California First Preliminary in Torrance this weekend.
Tomlinson won the All-Around in the 13-14 age group. He also won floor exercise and parallel bars. Froehlich, Weiner and Prow placed second, fourth and fifth in the all-around in the 11-12 age division. Froehlich also won the rings and parallel bar title, while Prow won the floor and pommel horse titles.
Senior Brett Ridley won the 17-18, Level 10 all-around title, including victories on the floor exercise, pommel horse, vault and parallel bars.
The boys are coached by Tom Ladman and Matt Williams.
The Level 6 boys started their season with a strong second-place finish at the Southern California First Preliminary.
Collin Maberry won the 13-and-over all-around, also winning pommel horse, parallel bars and high bar.
Kaleb Hillan and Alex Pope placed second and third in the all-around in the 11-12 group. Hillan also won the floor exercise title, while Pope won the vault.
In the 9-and-under age group, Connor Shanley placed second on vault, Zachary Whitmore placed third on vault and Matthew Rogers place fourth on vault. The boys are coached by Ladman and Williams.

The Bullets 8U went 5-0 to win the Second Sliders Winter Showdown Championship at the Northwest Bakersfield Baseball Compex (pictured left), Dec. 8-9, and also went undefeated to win the Wm. S. Hart fall league (pictured right). The Players: Matthew Torres, Jacob Gutierrez, Jr. Romero, Jason Oliver, Johnnie Lee, Nico DeHaro, Joe Mata, Bradley Perez, Lucas Moreno, Luis Fuentes and DJ Tillman. The coaches are: Greg Torres, Joe Mata, Milo DeHaro, Jason Oliver, Jorge Gutierrez, Jorge Rodriguez.
Bakersfield Assault won the 8-team 12U Division at the Third-annual Toys For Tots Tournament at Bakersfield Southwest Aera Field complex this weekend. The Assault beat Triple Play 10-0 in the semifinals. In the Championship, Jacob Perez and Robert Morales combined on a no-hitter to beat the Sluggers, 2-0. The team: Hunter Ratekin, Jose Ruiz, Mike Bray, Jacob Perez, Robert Morales III. Nate Cardenas, Ruben Barron, AJ Torres, James Melendez, Gabriel Davison, Jojo Heredia, coaches Joe Perez, Mark Ratekin, Robert Morales Jr.
Basketball
Tevis Junior High went 4-0 to capture the Standard Middle School boys basketball tournament eighth-grade division title Saturday. Tevis defeated Fruitvale, Warren and Norris before beating Stonecreek, 38-26, in the championship. The Players: Alec Check, Stephen Figures, Jesse Gilbert, Kaleb Jennings, Aubrey Jones, Kevin Larson, Jacob Lopez, Alejandro Murillo, Nick Neilson, Dupree Phillips, Ronnie Stapp and Jordan Wonderly. The team is coached by Louis Pumphrey and assisted by Derek Check.
