MODESTO -- Juan Silverio hit a two-run double as Bakersfield took the lead with a four-run sixth inning en route to a 5-3 victory over the Modesto Nuts on Friday night at John Thurman Field.
Silverio finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, as Bakersfield (28-40) won its second in a row over Modesto (31-37).
Bakersfield starter James Allen (5-5) allowed two runs and five hits over seven innings to earn the victory. He struck out four and walked two.
Allen, who is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA over three June starts, has pitched at least five innings in each of his last nine starts.
With Bakersfield trailing 2-1, Yorman Rodriguez walked and Marquez Smith singled to open the sixth for the Blaze. Steve Selsky singled home Rodriguez and Juan Silva walked to load the bases, setting the table for Silverio's big knock for a 4-2 lead. Silva scored from third when David Vidal grounded into a double play.
Pat Doyle allowed one run over two innings, striking out five without a walk, for his second save of the season.
Bakersfield plays tonight and Sunday at Moesto before heading into the All-Star break.

WICHITA, Kan. -- Bakersfield High graduate Bhavik Patel sits three strokes back after making the cut at the Air Capital Classic.
Nathan Tyler leads the Web.com Tour event at 10-under 132. Patel shot 68-67 to sit at 7-under 135 entering the weekend.
