Source: Centennial to hire Sneed as football coach
BY ZACH EWING Californian staff writer zewing@bakersfield.com
A source with knowledge of the situation tells me that Ridgeview athletic director Kevin Sneed is set to become the next football coach at Centennial, meaning the Golden Hawks are replacing a highly successful coach with another one.
Centennial has set a press conference for 1 p.m. Wednesday to officially announce its coach, but I'm told it will be Sneed. He could not be reached for comment Tuesday to confirm.
If Sneed is the man, Centennial is getting a head coach with a proven track record of success — though not in the past 10 years. Sneed coached at West High from 1984-92 and at Centennial from 1998-2000, with assistant gigs at Foothill, Centennial, Ridgeview and Bakersfield College in between and since.
Sneed's overall record in those 12 seasons is 102-34 — combining a 75-25 mark in nine years at West and a 27-9 record in three years at Centennial, both good for a .750 winning percentage. He won SYL title at West in 1985, 1987 and 1991, and was runner-up in the Central Section in 1988.
The Golden Hawks won SWYL titles all three years Sneed was at Centennial.
I'll have full coverage of the press conference tomorrow, in print, online and on Twitter, @zewing.
