Division I playoff bracket, quickie analysis
BY ZACH EWING Californian staff writer zewing@bakersfield.com
The Central Section commissioners moved quickly this morning in Porterville, knocking out six football playoff brackets in less than three hours. I'll post the brackets in each division with my first-impression analysis in separate posts. Much, much more to come this week, of course.
DIVISION I
(1) Clovis
BYE
(9) Clovis-Buchanan
(8) Liberty
(5) Bakersfield
(12) Clovis East
(4) Fresno-Central
(13) Tulare Union
(3) Frontier
BYE
(11) Clovis West
(6) Fresno-Edison
(7) Stockdale
(10) Fresno-Bullard
BYE
(2) Clovis North
First impressions: This played out exactly as I said it would on BVarsity Live last night, with Clovis East getting bumped up to No. 12 and Bullard to No. 10 to avoid a couple of Week 10 rematches. The bottom half of the bracket is loaded, with hot league champions in Frontier and Edison, perhaps the best overall team in Clovis North and the D.J. Martin factor. The top half? Well, Bakersfield at Central will be a doozy, but the Drillers have to like their draw with Frontier and Clovis North on the other half. As for Clovis? I'm thinking the Cougars would much rather see Buchanan and Central again that have to mess with a couple of talented Kern County schools in Liberty and Bakersfield.
Early prediction: Semifinals: Bakersfield d. Clovis, and Clovis North d. Frontier
Championship: Clovis North d. Bakersfield
