Bakersfield High grad Tyrone Wallace abuses rim for Cal

Independence boys basketball team was the local basketball story of the day Saturday, with its 11-0 run to end a dramatic 62-60 over Mission Oak in the Division III Central Section championship in Fresno.
But a couple of hours to the west, an old Bakersfield prep star was doing his thing and landing on ESPN. Bakersfield High grad Tyrone Wallace, a freshman for Cal, has seemingly gotten better and better and done more and more for the Golden Bears this year. That culminated yesterday as Cal beat Colorado 62-46 behind Wallace's 16 points and 11 rebounds. The win clinched Cal a bye in the Pac-12 Conference Tournament, which begins a week from Wednesday in Las Vegas.
