Some exciting news: Louis Amestoy and I will host a special edition of BVarsity Live tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 to preview the CIF State Track and Field Championships, which are Friday and Saturday in Clovis.
We'll spend plenty of time talking about locals, and I'm sure Louis will have plenty of historical state-meet knowledge to drop, but the bulk of the programming will feature four high-profile guests: Stockdale junior Blake Haney, Ridgeview senior Ivan Gonzalez, Liberty sophomore Morganne HIll and Bakersfield junior Scotty Newton.
All four are favored, to varying degrees, to compete for state titles in their events. Haney enters with the state's top mark in both the 1,600 and 3,200, and Gonzalez enters No. 2 in the 800 (except No. 1 isn't running, something we'll get into tomorrow). Hill is a top-10 seed in both girls hurdles events, and Newton could be a top-three finisher in both the long jump and triple jump.
We're planning on doing some Letterman-style interviews, where we'll talk one-on-one with one athlete and the move to the next, but all four should be present to chime in during the whole show.
The state meet in California is a spectacle, and this is an exciting way for us to kick off coverage. And remember, it's live at 2:30 p.m. Log on to www.bakersfield.com at that time to view.
