Week 0 live thread and scoreboard
BY ZACH EWING Californian staff writer zewing@bakersfield.com
Happy Opening Day. Aug. 24 is here, and it's like a holiday for high school football fans in the Central Section.
As always, this will serve as a live thread to post scores and discuss Friday night action as it happens. Once 7 p.m. rolls around, I'll start a live thread from the Ridgeview at Frontier game. Keep your cursor on that refresh button; updates will come all night, both from the game and from the complete scorelist below.
A few reminders before we get going:
(1) If you don't see a live thread tonight, it's because my wife went into labor with our baby boy. But all is quiet on that front as of Friday morning (baby is due Tuesday).
(2) Tonight, after you're done following the live blog or watching your game of choice (or both), log onto bakersfieldcalifornian.com/sports and watch the first edition of BVarsity Live, The Californian's new hour-long live show on Friday nights. Louis Amestoy will host with plenty of live scores and stats. I'll probably stop in for a few minutes when I get some time.
(3) We're also amping up our multimedia coverage on Twitter. I'll update my Twitter feed, @zewing, when possible, but if you want the most updates from the most places, follow @bvarsitylive. And if you have an update, hashtag it #bakopreps, so that anyone can search that and find all Kern County updates.
(4) The first congratulations of the year are in order to Robert F. Kennedy, which won the first game in school history last night after 30 straight losses. The Thunderbirds beat Porterville-Granite Hills, 20-6, behind two interceptions returned for touchdowns from Baggio Jauregui.
That was a pretty cool start to the year. Welcome back, high school football. Now it's time to find out what surprises Friday night has in store.
(All games 7:30 p.m. Friday unless noted; Central Section ranking in parentheses)
