Centennial pitcher Trish McNew threw a dominant seven-inning, one-hit outing in a 9-0 victory against Independence on Thursday. She only allowed two baserunners while recording 11 strikeouts.

"Trish showed up big-time today," said Centennial coach Samantha Walker. "We've had some struggles with not being able to finish games in the past, but she went all seven innings perfectly."

The Falcons (5-6) managed their only hit the top of the fifth inning. McNew struck out the side twice in Thursday's game, once in the third inning and again in the sixth.

Centennial's offense showed up as well. The Golden Hawks (8-3) scored their nine runs on nine hits, including a triple down the right-field line from Madison Hightower in the sixth inning. McNew followed with a two-run double into left field, bringing in Hightower and Ashley Hernandez, who was hit by a pitch.

"When we got baserunners on, we pushed them around." Walker said. "We didn't leave anybody out there, and we got enough runs to put some subs in to score runs for us as well."

Defense was also a bright spot for the Golden Hawks, who seemed to have everything going their way on Thursday. They recorded 16 outs in the field without a single error.

"Centennial came out to play and we were a little flat," said Independence coach Brian Graham. "We just need to have a little more energy out in the field. The girls are great with drills; now we need to transition from the practice field to the playing field."
