Collatz places eighth at Junior World meet

Stockdale graduate Alex Collatz placed eighth in the women's discus at the IAAF Junior World Track and Field Championships in Barcelona on Sunday.
Of the 12 competitors in the finals, the top eight after three throws were given three additional tosses. Collatz's 48.74-meter (159 feet, 11 inches) toss on her first throw was 0.01 better than ninth place, so she made the final eight.
Her fourth throw improved to 49.28 meters (161-8), but she fouled on her final two attempts and finished eighth.
Collatz, a rising sophomore at USC, has a personal best of 180-9 (55.09) as a high school junior. She severely injured her knee as a senior.
