Swimmer of the Year

Brock Bonetti

Stockdale * senior

Three-time All-Area first-teamer and Texas A&M signee went out in style, winning the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke for the second straight year at the D-I Central Section finals. Bonetti has swam several All-American times in the backstroke.

Diver of the Year

Ethan Meadows

Frontier * junior

Runner-up in the Division I diving finals with a score of 425.70, Meadows out-paced last year's Diver of the Year, Stockdale's David Hamilton, who finished third.

First team

Adam Bond

Frontier * junior

He finished fifth in the D-I section finals in the 100 butterfly (51.78) and also swam on two Frontier relay teams that reached the A final at the section championships.

Michael Hart

Liberty * sophomore

He owned top-three times locally in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and swam well in the B final in both events at the section meet, winning his heat (ninth overall) in the breaststroke and finishing 11th in the 50 free.

Aiden Pike

Highland * senior

Pike set a Division II section meet record with a 49.55 in the 100 butterfly, and he also won a D-II title in the 100 backstroke (51.11). Both of his times would have pushed for D-I titles. He also had the area's best 500 freestyle time.

Evan Rabanal

Frontier * junior

Rabanal surprised Bonetti in the 200 IM final at the Southwest Yosemite League meet and then finished a narrow second to him in the premier individual section final. He later finished seventh in the 100 butterfly.

Matt Ramos

Stockdale * senior

He anchored Stockdale's bronze-medal 200 medley relay team and also reached B finals in two events at the D-I section finals, finishing 12th in the 100 breaststroke and 15th in the 200 freestyle.

Jon Sontamino

Highland * junior

Sontamino was second only to his teammate Pike in the D-II 100 backstroke finals and had the area's third-best time in the event. He also had the area's second-best time in the 100 freestyle, in which he was fourth at the D-II meet.

Tyler Stabile

Centennial * senior

One of just two locals to swim in four A finals at the D-I meet (Bonetti is the other), Stabile finished fourth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100 free. He owned the area's fastest times by wide margins in both events.

Alex Treiberg

Centennial * senior

Another member of Centennial's juggernaut boys team, Treiberg was the area's best in the breaststroke by nearly four seconds. He actually had the section's best time in the event (58.60), though he was runner-up in the section finals with a 59.59.

Coach of the Year

David Graves, Centennial

Based on finishing order at the section meet, the Centennial boys swimming team had its best season in school history.

Under the leadership of David Graves, The BVarsity Boys Swimming Coach of the Year, the Golden Hawks took fourth place at this year's Central Section Division I Championships.

That's one spot better than their previous best finish at the event.

On top of that, the Centennial boys have won three straight Southwest Yosemite League championships following seven years of Stockdale owning the No. 1 spot.

This season the Golden Hawks dominated the SWYL, posting a 5-0 record in league duals and outscoring runner-up Frontier 489-354 at the league championship meet.

"You go in streaks, and this is a streak that we're on right now," Graves said. "Hopefully we can it hold on for one more year, but it's going to be real tough."

Graves, the only boys swimming coach in Centennial school history, oversaw a deep squad that produced several highlights.

The Golden Hawks were champions of the Villanova Preparatory Invitational swim meet in Ojai and set school records in the 200-yard medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Graves said the Golden Hawks' success was truly a team effort.

"We had quite a number of kids that were unselfish and willing to make sacrifices, and that's just good luck," he said. "At public schools you try and guide and lead the best you can, but you have to play the hand you're dealt, and I was dealt a really good hand."
