Blake Haney is back, and so might be Stockdale as a Central Section cross country title contender. But it's Connor Fisher who will lead the Mustangs to Fresno next week.
Fisher won the Southwest Yosemite League title at Hart Park on Thursday, clocking 15:06 on the 3-mile course and beating teammate Haney, the defending section champ who ran 15:24 for second in just his second race since returning from an injury below his right knee.
Fisher and Haney helped Stockdale score 23 points with a 1-2-5-6-9 finish. That was well in front of second-place Frontier, which scored 58 behind Brandon Kan's third-place finish (15:38).
Last year, the Mustangs won the first Central Section team title in school history behind Haney's individual championship.
The Stockdale girls also won the league, scoring 41 points. They were followed by Frontier (53), Liberty (56) and Centennial (61).
Centennial junior Molly Pruett won the individual title in 18:19, just in front of Liberty senior Morganne Hill, who had the same time. Stockdale's Tori Blackmon was third in 18:33.
It was a Ridgeview sweep in the South Yosemite League races, with the Wolf Pack boys finishing 1-3-4-6-8 to out-point West 22-58. Ivan Gonzalez won the race in 15:55, nine seconds ahead of West's Gustavo DelCastillo.
The Ridgeview girls were led by Lashya Morgan in the day's most dominant individual performance. She won in 18:19 -- the same as the winning SWYL times in a faster race -- and was nearly a minute better than runner-up Mariah Ayala of Golden Valley (19:16). That helped the Wolf Pack hold off Mira Monte, 38-46, for a title.
North's boys edged Foothill 51-52 in the Southeast Yosemite League, meaning the teams will split the league title after the Trojans won the teams' dual meet, also by a point. It's the first league cross country title for North since 1996.
Foothill's Chris Garcia won in 16:25, three seconds faster than North's Brian Becker and 5 seconds ahead of Tehach-api's Cameron Gamble.
In the girls race, Sydney Roman (18:34) and East repeated as champions. The Blades finished 1-4-9-12-18 to score 44 points. Tehachapi was second in 55 and Garces third in 61.
Angell Gil won in 15:18 as the Shafter boys swept the top three spots on the way to a South Sequoia League boys title at Wasco. Nicolete Aldape won in 18:21 and the Shafter girls took the top four places to earn a title.
