SANTA ANA -- Stockdale's girls basketball team ended its season with a 91-46 loss on Friday to Santa Ana-Mater Dei in the CIF Open Division playoffs.
Mater Dei (29-1), which led 58-21 at halftime, was No. 1 in the nation by several rankings until a one-point loss in its Southern Section championship.
"They're more than deserving of the No. 1 rank in the nation," Stockdale co-coach Charles Stewart said. "They put on an absolute clinic on offense and defense."
It's the end of a storied career for Stewart and co-coach Glenn Hager, who retires as the Central Section's all-time wins leader. Hager was 446-168 with four section titles and six runner-ups, according to section historian Bob Barnett.
Dakota Oliver scored 13 points to lead Stockdale, and Leigha Moland added 11.
