TULARE -- Jake Thompson threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Matt Smith midway through the fourth quarter as Bakersfield Christian upset Tulare-Mission Oak 7-0 on Friday in the semifinals of the Central Section Division IV playoffs.
The Eagles (10-2) will face Wasco (12-0) for the D-IV section title Friday.
"(Defensive coordinator Sean) Lozano had a great game plan," said BCHS head coach Jerald Pierucci.
BCHS' Josh Jackson had two interceptions, including one in the end zone in the fourth quarter that ended one of Mission Oak's last drives as the clock ticked down.
"I was looking for that pick the whole time," Jackson said. "Mission Oak said it was pass interference, but it wasn't. I believe defense wins championships, and we can beat beat Wasco."
Mission Oak's Elijah Porchia led all rushers with 123 yards on 23 carries. He also caught six passes for 53 yards.
Mission Oak's Corbin Quinonez completed 16-of-21 passes, but the offense never got going
"We should've rolled those guys," Mission Oak wide receiver Leandre Jefferson said. "But we didn't call the right plays. We ran a bunch of bubble passes and they didn't work because we didn't get the blocks."
