Former Stockdale High All-Area volleyball player Stevi Robinson has earned a spot as one of 28 players training with the U.S. national indoor team, but will be sidelined through August after suffering a leg injury.

Robinson, 24, moved to Hermosa Beach in the summer of 2007 after her junior year at Stockdale and played for Manhattan Beach-Mira Costa High, and continued an impressive streak of success, both indoors and on sand.

Her Mira Costa team went 37-0, won a state title and was ranked No. 1 nationally, and Robinson earned a scholarship to play at Pepperdine. In four collegiate indoor seasons, she became the Waves' career leader in digs, and also was part of their first NCAA national sand volleyball championship team in 2012.

She earned her bachelor's degree communication management.

With sand volleyball eligibility remaining, Robinson transferred to USC and competed as a grad student. She teamed with Kirby Burnham, a Newport Beach native, to win the 2013 NCAA pairs title, earning All-American honors. She completed her master's degree as well.

The US team's open tryouts were in December, and Robinson, who plays the libero position, was picked from a crop of nearly 300 competitors. The roster that represents the US in the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro will be trimmed to 16 players, including two liberos, about a month before the Olympics. The team is coached by volleyball legend Karch Kiraly.

One of Robinson's post-collegiate highlights was competing in last summer's World University Games in Russia for the USA U26 beach team. She and teammate Caitlin Ledoux of Long Beach State placed eighth among a field 35.

During a national team practice on March 3 in Anaheim, Robinson, 24, sustained a dislocated kneecap and fractured tibia on her right leg. She is no longer wearing a cast or brace and just starting rehab.
