Former Ridgeview quarterback Tyler Ferguson has found a new Division I home — Louisville, where new coach Bobby Petrino accepted Ferguson’s transfer from Penn State on Friday, according to David Reese, Ferguson’s stepfather.

Ferguson graduated from Ridgeview in 2012, then set multiple passing records at College of the Sequoias in his one season there before transferring to Penn State.

He lost a fall battle for the Nittany Lions’ starting job to freshman Christian Hackenburg and threw just 15 passes this season, completing 10 for 155 yards and a touchdown. He announced his intention to transfer in December.

Ferguson will enroll at Louisville next week and participate in spring practice, Reese said.

The 6-5 quarterback had been linked to Western Kentucky, where Petrino coached for one season, but when the coach returned to Louisville, his offer to Ferguson came along.

“After he got the job at Louisville, he called me very shortly after that,” Ferguson told

Louisville was 12-1 this past season and will join the Atlantic Coast Conference next season. Ferguson will sit out next season and then have two years of eligibility remaining.
