From start to finish, Garces proved to be too much for Kennedy as the Rams rolled past the Thunderbirds 80-41 Monday on the first day of the Garces Holiday Classic.

"It was nice to get back on the floor after a couple weeks off with finals and break, and I thought the guys responded well off those two weeks," Rams coach Matt Robles said.

"They were able to shake off the rust and I thought they did a good job."

With a defense that created turnovers and fast-break opportunities, the Rams (6-4) opened a 21-4 first-quarter lead and were never threatened.. Garces led 41-22 lead by halftime.

"That's a good shooting team over there and we contested shots, we tried to limit them to one shot and done I thought the boys did a good job of doing that," Robles said.

Rashad Jackson led the Rams with 20 points, 15 rebounds and four assists.

"I think we got off to a good start, we just got to a good flow early and we just kept it going from there," said Jackson.

"We knew if we just played defense, executed and rebound we would get into that good flow because that's where we get our dues."

The Rams did not let up in the second half and never let the lead get under 20 points.

"They did a good job of not taking their foot off the pedal," Robles said of his Rams. "We talked about it at halftime about coming out and doing their job and the boys did that."

Garces point guard Jordan Slaton scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and center Calvin Winkler added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The tournament resumes Thursday, and Garces will play at 7:20 that night against the winner of Thursday's Frontier-El Segundo game, which starts at 9:25 a.m.
