Garces football coach Jim Maples has been placed on paid administrative leave, athletic director Lela Steiber said.
Steiber said any further comment must come from the Roman-Catholic Diocese of Fresno, as is the norm for personnel matters at Garces, a Catholic school.
Reached via text message, Maples said he couldn't comment. A year ago, in his first season as the Rams' head coach, Maples led Garces to a 12-1 season and the Central Section Division II championship. He served as the team's defensive coordinator under John Roberts for the two previous years.
When asked if the disciplinary action had any relation to the race-related incident Garces acknowledged in a statement last week, Steiber had no comment.
Fall practice for this season started Monday. Steiber had no immediate comment on an interim or acting head coach. The Rams' season begins Aug. 31 at home against San Luis Obispo.
