Mathews will not be able to work camp at Frontier

By CALIFORNIAN STAFF REPORT

Chargers running back and West High graduate Ryan Mathews will not be present at the Lorenzo Neal youth football camp at Frontier on Tuesday, as was originally planned.

Mathews said he and his agent miscommunicated on the date of the camp; the Chargers have a mandatory mini-camp for players the same day.

"I just wanted to say I'm sorry, but I can't miss (mini-camp)," Mathews said. "It's mandatory. But there will be other camps I'll make it to."

The camp runs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday. Instructors will include Neal, a three-time all-pro fullback; Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr, a Bakersfield Christian graduate; and former Patriots running back J.R. Redmond.

"I would be there if I can, for sure," Mathews said. "Bakersfield is my hometown."

Cost is $125 and includes a barbecue lunch. For more information, call (424) 242-5786, visit www.gametimeintl.com or email camps@gametimeintl.com.
