Source: 10 Garces players suspended
By The Bakersfield Californian
Ten varsity football players from Garces High will not be allowed to play tonight because of a violation of team rules, a source close to the Rams' program reported Thursday night.
Coach Jim Maples declined to comment and referred calls to Garces President John Fanucchi or Principal Kathleen Bears.
"I won't comment on school-related matters," Fanucchi said. "It is a school-related matter and in deference to our families and students I can't comment on it."
The Rams play host to Golden Valley tonight. The suspended players will reportedly be allowed to rejoin the team Monday, although Fanucchi did not comment on that, either. The suspensions were first reported by Channel 17.
Garces opened its season with a 21-20 win at San Luis Obispo last Saturday. Golden Valley beat Taft 41-31 last Friday in its opener.
