The wait is over. After sitting dormant for almost nine months without stadium lights turned on around the county on Friday nights, football is back.

The 2014 Kern County football season officially kicks off at 6 tonight with Ridgeview playing Frontier in the opening game of a doubleheader at Bakersfield College's Memorial Stadium.

It might be Week 0, but there is plenty to get excited about. The marquee matchup of Bakersfield playing Southern Section power Westlake Village-Oaks Christian got even more prominent when the Kern High School District announced the game was the second half of the doubleheader at BC. It will begin at approximiately 8:30, or 30 minutes after the Ridgeview/ Frontier game ends.
