  1. Smith's grand slam helps Blaze top Rawhide

    Marquez Smith hit a grand slam, and Mike Dennhardt pitched strongly for seven innings Tuesday to lead the Bakersfield Blaze to a 6-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide in a California League baseball game at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

    Smith's 21 homers are the fifth most in the Cal League this season. He is the first player in all of minor league baseball to reach 100 RBIs this season.

    Smith's blast came in the third inning. He also scored twice. Dennhardt allowed only one eaned run in five innings. He struck out three, did not walk a batter and allowed five hits.
