The Bakersfield Condors are losing leading scorer Joel Broda, for a while, but gaining the Stockton Thunder's leading goal scorer in separate transactions, that really aren't that separate.

Broda, who has 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists) in 35 games, has signed a professional tryout with the Bridgeport, Conn., Sound Tigers of the AHL.

Subtractions

Joel Broda (tryout, Bridgeport)

Nicholas Tremblay (traded to Bridgeport, assigned to Stockton)

Broda, who is on an ECHL contract with the Condors, had turned down a couple short-term call-ups to American Hockey League teams, agreed to go to Bridgeport, when told he has the opportunity for a long-term stay.

Broda headed to Bridgeport on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the Sound Tigers the Islanders' AHL affiliate, and Oklahoma City, the Oilers' affiliate, swapped players who were under AHL contracts and playing in the ECHL.

The Condors, through their affiliation with Oklahoma City, are getting Greg Miller from Stockton, while the Thunder are netting Nicholas Tremblay from the Condors through the Sound Tigers.

Miller led the Thunder with 17 goals, and was second in points with 38 in 37 games. Tremblay had 16 points in 41 games with the Condors.

"The one positive thing is when you have Edmonton owning the team, they have a vested interest in making sure we're going to be competitive," Condors coach Troy Mann said. "We've replaced Miller for Broda, and Tremblay wasn't going to play Saturday (against Las Vegas) because he's out injured.

"I hear (Miller is) my type of player in terms of north-south, that kind of thing. We'll get him right in here Saturday and hopefully he continues scoring."

As for how long Broda remains in Bridgeport, Mann said it depends on him.

"It's all in his hands," he said. "They have promised him a look. If he goes in and plays well maybe he earns a spot for next year. The good news from our perspective is they're 11 points out of the playoffs. Eleven points is not going to be easy to make up, so we should get Broda back no matter what for playoffs."
