BOISE, Idaho -- Defenseman George Hughes scored his first professional goal, but the Bakersfield Condors could not overcome a strong Idaho Steelheads effort in a 3-1 loss Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Idaho forward Brock Montgomery scored on a two-on-one break, depositing a quick pass past goalie Laurent Brossoit.
The goal, which came 4:56 into the period, ended Brossoit's streak without allowing a goal at 211 minutes.
Just 21 seconds into the third period, Idaho made it 2-0 when defenseman Etienne Boutet's shot from the left point went through traffic, deflected off a body in front of the goal and sailed into the back of the net.
Hughes' goal came 2 minutes later, and that was all the offense the Condors could muster despite outshooting the Steelheads 26-21.
The final game of the series starts at 4:10 p.m. today at Boise.
