Four drivers are locked in a tight points battle midway through the IMCA Modified points season at Bakersfield Speedway.
Heading into Saturday night's race on the third-mile clay oval, just seven points separate points leader Larry Hood from fourth-place Roger Holder. Nestled in between is Brad Pounds, two points behind Hood, and Jay Marks, three points behind Pounds.
Consistency (just one point separates each finishing position in IMCA) has been the key for Hood, who has one win and four other top-five finishes. He has finished no worse than 11th through eight races.
Pounds is the only repeat winner (three) but a last-place finish two races ago allowed the rest of the pack to catch up.
Marks (four top-fives) is seeking his first victory, while Holder has one win.
Also competing on Saturday night will be Sport Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Three-Quarter Midgets.
Jared Schweitzer leads the Sport Mods points race and is looking for his first win of the season. The top six drivers are separated by just 20 points..
Gary Spiller Jr. leads the Mini Stocks division.

No, not the doo-wop/ R&B/soul/pop group that has had 60 vocalists since the original 1953 group.
And no, not some people who are just passing through town.
The JustDrift group, which stages drifting competition at Willow Springs International Raceway, will be putting on two 10-minute exhibitions on the half-mile track during Saturday's racing program at the track.
Pro Late Models, Legends, Bandoleros and Mini Dwarfs will provide the racing action.
The drifting exhibition provides the opportunity for drifters to test the track while also giving track officials an opportunity to see if drifting might be on the menu next season.
