Alaska works two shutouts over struggling Condors

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Condors have two streaks going, and neither one is particularly good.

Bakersfield's 5-0 loss Saturday night and 4-0 loss Sunday means they haven't scored since the second period of Friday's game, a span of 149 minutes.

It also means that, at 0-6-1, the Condors early-season winless streak -- the worst in franchise history to start a season -- rolls on for another week.

In both games, the Condors were able to hold the Aces off the board in the first period, only to see them put the game away in the second and third periods.

In Saturday's game, Alaska outshot the Condors 32-16 overall, including 18 shots in a second period in which they scored four goals, with Brad Richard opening the scoring with a goal about 2 minutes into the second period.

He finished Saturday's game with two goals. Tommy Mele for the Aces also had two goals.

Sunday was a similar story: The Condors were out shot by the Aces 26-16 and did not get on the board until the second period.

Peter Sivak, who had two assists the night before, opened the scoring Sunday with a goal from Evan Trupp and Peter LaFranchise 4:19 into the second period. Sivak added another two assists in the game.

Brendan Connolly, Trupp and LaFranchise would all add goals in the third period to put the Condors away.

Bakersfield was also heavily penalized in the final game of the Alaska trip, with nine penalties for a total of 21 minutes. Alaska converted on just one of those chances.

Paul Karpowich, the lone goalie for the Alaska trip, allowed 15 goals on 83 shots over the three games in Anchorage, with Tyler Bunz moved up to AHL Oklahoma City.
