With 15 rookies on his roster at the end of last season, Condors coach Matt O'Dette vowed to bring back many of those players, and he's started with one of the best.
The Condors announced that leading scorer Tyler Helfrich has agreed to terms for the upcoming season.
"Tyler is a player who really found a home here (after being acquired from Gwinnett)," said O'Dette. "He does a lot of the little things very well, whether it be on the power play or on the penalty kill, and he developed into a leader ... His professionalism really rubbed off on the guys and it's a great start for us to have him back."
Helfrich, 24, led the Condors in scoring with 50 points (19 goals, 31 assists) in 65 games. After being acquired on Nov. 21st from the Gwinnett (Ga.) Gladiators, the rookie forward went on to amass 42 points in 53 games played with Bakersfield, including 11 multiple-point games. The crafty two-way native of Calgary, Alberta was named the ECHL's Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 26-Jan. 1 after recording seven points in four games and served as an alternate captain for the second half of the season.
"I'm excited to pick up where we left off at the end of last season," Helfrich said. "I'm looking forward to getting this team back in the playoff picture."
Helfrich was the first rookie in Condors history to lead the team in scoring and his 50 points rank fourth all-time among Condors rookies.
