Could the Condors be playing a hockey game next year in Dodger Stadium?
It's certainly a possibility.
Perhaps a distinct possibility.
Although there has been no confirmation from the National Hockey League, it has been widely reported there will be six outdoor games next season, including the Los Angeles Kings hosting the Anaheim Ducks at Dodger Stadium Jan, 25, 2014.
On Wednesday, the LA Kings Insider reported that the temporary outdoor rink at Dodger Stadium will have a variety of secondary events in days before or after the Kings game, among them a possible ECHL game pitting the Ontario Reign against the Bakersfield Condors.
"It'd be awesome if we could somehow be a part of that," Condors President Matthew Riley said when asked if a game at Dodger Stadium was in the works. "We've inquired. We'll see. Time will tell.
"All I did was made a phone call and said we would be interested in playing. To see it in a story is somewhat surprising."
Riley said the location is perfect for the two closest teams -- Ontario and Bakersfield -- which both have solid fan bases.
"It'd be a lot of fun for our fans, a lot of fun for our players," Riley said. "Who wouldn't be interested"
"Again, we've just expressed interest. But hopefully it happens."
TSN first reported the six-game outdoor bonanza, which begins with the The Winter Classic on New Years day , featuring Detroit and Toronto at Michigan Stadium. That game was set for this year but fell victim to the NHL lockout.
Two games will reportedly be held at Yankee Stadium -- New Jersey against the New York Rangers on Jan. 26 and the New York Islanders against the Rangers on Jan. 29. Chicago would host Pittsburgh on March 1 at Soldier Field in Chicago and Vancouver would host Ottawa on March 2 at BC Place in Vancouver on March 2.
