Condors top Idaho in shootout, 3-2

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

Brian Stewart stopped 41 shots during the game and the Condors went on to beat the Idaho Steelheads 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night in Boise, snapping a five-game winless streak.

"The boys battled hard, it wasn't the prettiest but sometimes they're not on the road," Condors coach Matt O'Dette said. "Lots of credit to Stewy in net."

Peter Boyd tied the game with his first goal of the season 12:19 into the third and led the Condors off with their first goal of the shutout. Tyler Brenner and Levi Nelson also scored for the Condors in the shootout and Stewart stopped three of the four shooters he faced.

"He's a warrior out there," Condors coach O'Dette said of Boyd, who missed a goal by an inch when he hit the crossbar early in the second period. "He's going to give you his best effort every night and he's been a little snake bit. It was nice to see him get the game tying goal and the big one to set the tone in the shootout."

Stewart set the tone throughout the game, especially in the third period when he made 17 saves, several of those over the final minutes as the Steelheads ramped up the pressure. He made three saves in the five-minute overtime and is now 14-1 in shootouts during his pro career.

The Condors (4-7-1-0) opened the scoring 4:30 into the game when defenseman Trevor Hendrix sent a shot through traffic for this third goal

The second period was controlled by the Steelheads with Adrian Foster scoring at 7:23 and 13:20 to put them up 2-1. Bakersfield was outshot 13-2 during the period.
