AHL Phantoms loan goaltender to Bakersfield
By Condors Talk
The Adirondack Phantoms have announced that goalie Brian Stewart has been loaned to the Condors.
Stewart has won four straight games for the Phantoms and won Reebok/AHL Player of the Week honors last week as he went 3-0-0 with a 1.34 goals against average and a .949 save percentage. He ran his win streak to four with a Wednesday night with a 3-2 shootout victory at the Albany Devils.
The Phantoms had to find a place for Stewart when Philadelphia goaltender Michael Leighton, who had been injured, cleared waivers on Tuesday and was send down to Adirondack.
Stewart is due to arrive in Bakersfield on Thursday night and leaves the Condors with three goaltenders. Condors coach Marty Raymond said he would carry three goaltenders on the roster with Peter Hirsch going on the 7-day IR.
“We talked with Philly in August or September about a situation and every time something would happen so nothing panned out,” Raymond said. “They reached out to us over the last two weeks and we’re acquiring a great goaltender so it’s tough for us to say no.
“I think it’s a tough situation for us because HIrsch is part of our club and he is still part of our club. But we have no choice but to get Brian in here and play with Tordj at this point. Peter is part of our team and we’ll see how it goes for a while.”
Tordjman has seven wins in his last weight starts, won back-to-back ECHL Goaltender of the Week honors and was then a runner-up for the honor. He is third in the league with 726 saves, tied for fourth with a .921 save percentage and is fifth with 12 wins.
A rookie from Burnaby, B.C., Stewart is now 4-5-0 (3.05, .891) in 10 games for Adirondack in 2010-11. He has also played in three games with Greenville (SC) of the ECHL going 2-1-0 (2.68, .918).
