Condors beat Stockton in first preseason game

By The Bakersfield Californian

The Condors were clearly the better team in the first of two preseason games against the Stockton Thunder on Friday night.

Forward Zach Cohen, who arrived in Bakersfield on Tuesday night, scored two goals and defenseman Olivier Malka and forward David Towes each had a goal in a 4-0 win at Rabobank Arena.

Goaltender Brian Stewart stopped all 28 shots he faced.
The two teams meet again in Stockton on Saturday night.

While pleased with a lot of what he saw, Condors coach Matt O’Dette was quick to point out the Thunder did not field their best team. Several top players stayed in Stockton and the Thunder should be loaded up with players coming down from the American Hockey League next week.
Malka, who put the Condors up 2-0 with a power-play goal 53 seconds into the third chucked when asked to describe his goal.
“All the guys on the other bench were trying to chirp me, you know, ‘Malka you have no shot, blah, blah’,” he said. “I got the puck, looked up and you know, shot high glove. I tried to shoot high glove on him a few times and he saved me and I was like, no way I’m putting that blocker side so I went glove side.”
Prior the game, the Condors announced the signing of forward Brett Perlini who played the last four years at Michigan State University.
Perlini (6-foot-2, 201 pounds) was drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 NHL entry draft by Anaheim and had been in American Hockey League camp with Norfolk. Virg. He will play tonight.
