Condors bring Freeman back to fold

By The Bakersfield Californian

Looking to bolster their offense and make a run for the playoffs, the the Condors have signed former Condor Scott Freeman, who joined the team in Utah on Thursday.

Freeman had 15 goals and 15 assists in 30 games as a rookie right winger for the Condors last season. He started this season in the Austrian League, putting up 13 points in 20 games before returning to North America before Christmas.

Freeman was named the ECHL Rookie of the Month in October, 2011. He missed half of the month of December to injury and went down again in early January,

He’s a dynamic offensive player and a threat anytime he is on the ice,” Condors coach Matt O’Dette said. “He was not happy with his experience in Europe, took a few weeks off to think about it, and is ready to play hockey.” O’Dette said it was unlikely Freeman would play in Friday night's game against the Utah Grizzlies as he wants him to get in some skating before a game.

O'Dette has made several changes over the past few weeks, one of the biggest being the signing of rookie forward Nicholas Tremblay, who was a teammate of Freeman's at Clarkson University. Tremblay has four goals and four assists in his first three games with Condors to earn ECHL Player of the Week honors.

While Freeman most likely will not play until Monday in Ontario, forward Brett Perlini, who had five points before suffering a broken jaw in his seventh game, may be in the lineup on Friday night.

Perlini’s return was delayed due to concussion-like symptoms after he returned to the ice.

He had quite an impact for us at the start of the season and his return is really big,” “O’Dette said.

In other news, Condors forward Francis Verreault has been selected to participate in the ECHL All-Star game on Jan. 23 in Colorado. The game features a team of all-stats taking on the Colorado Eagles. Acquired in a New Year’s Even trade with Greenville, Verreault is eighth in rookie scoring with 29 points and has points in all six games he’s played with Bakersfield.
