Community announcements and accomplishments for July 15

    Daniel Viveros of Impact Throwing Club competed at the Cal State Games Track Meet in San Diego on July 11-13. Daniel finished first place in the youth boys shot put and discus. Daniel finished his track season as the Youth Boys Kern County, Valley and State Champion in both shot put and Discus.

    Region 1416 from McFarland had a 19U boys team selected to participate in the National Games, where AYSO was celebrating its 50th anniversary, in Torrance along with 6,000 other soccer players. The team consisted of players from Delano, Richgrove and McFarland with the boys playing 10 games in five days against teams from New York, Utah, Hawaii, Florida and California, and were undefeated until the final game.

    Bakersfield Diamonds 10U recently won the "Getting Ready for State" Tournament. The team is Lexi Rolin, Marissa Campos, Savannah Baies, Natalie Herrera, Victoria Perales, Brooklyn Valverde, Micaiah Woods, Hannah Mosesian, Tianna Gonzalez, Isabel Gonzalez, Alyna Ruiz, Amanda Lazaro

    The Bakersfield Babes 12U fastpitch softball took home first place at the Tulare Summer Slam Tournament held July 12-13 in Tulare, Ca. The girls went 3-0 on Sunday to win the 12U Gold Bracket Championship.     The fastest 200 meter Bantam Boys Division runners in Kern County are Bakersfield 10-year-olds De Vaughn L. Bell, Jr., pictured, and Malik Bolton. These two athletes finished tied for third place in the Youth Championships track and field meet held on May 17 in Clovis, turning in a time of .29.03.

    Vincent Cardenas and Grant McMahon of the Japan Martial Arts Academy of Bakersfield competed in the USA National Karate Championships in Reno from July 10-13. Vincent won silver in Kata (forms) and a bronze in Kumite (sparring). Grant placed 5th in Kata out of a field of 23 competitors.

BASEBALL

The Bakersfield Rockets 12U Baseball Organization, a competitive travel team that plays throughout Central, Southern California and in local leagues and tournaments, is seeking players for the fall season. Contact Josh Langley (661) 747-1925.

The 9U KC Eagles are looking to add a few players to our roster. Players could not have turned 10 before May 1, 2014. If interested please call Jorge Gutierrez for a tryout at (661) 319-5176

SOFTBALL

Central Cal Dirtdogs 12U fastpitch softball team will be having open tryouts Aug. 2 at Stockdale High School. Check in is at 900 am. Tryouts start at 9:30 a.m. and to noon. All positions are open. If you have any questions call Derek Valencia 865-2305.

VOLLEYBALL

All Skills camp for 4th thru 8th graders. Learn and improve your skills with the Centennial Volleyball Coaching staff as well as former Centennial players who have gone on to play in college. July 29-Aug. 1, 12-3 pm. Email Chris Trowbridge at chris_trowbridge@kernhigh.org for more information.
