Basketball

Bowling

March 15:  Entry deadline for both State and National tournaments.

March  16-17:  2013 GEUSBC Mixed City Tournament, Regency Lanes.  Two divisions—Adult & Senior.  Team squads both days at 10 a.m.; Mixed Doubles squads both days at 1:30 p.m.  Entries accepted day of event (cash only) and you must register one hour prior to desired squad.  Entry fee is $25 per bowler per event.  For further information, go to www.geusbc.org.

March 16-17:  Youth Pepsi District 5 Finals, Valencia Lanes, Newhall.

Youth football

Adult tackle football

Full contact alumni football, with complete high school rules and games. Alumni Football USA organizes game day and provides all the gear: helmets, pads, field, officials, game DVDs and announcers. Soccer

Central California Blues tryouts. Boys: 6-7:30 pm today and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday. Girls: 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday and 10:30 a.m.-noon Saturday. All tryouts at Bakersfield High, 1241 G St. on west side of football stadium. Players should arrive 15-30 minutes early to sign in. Bring water, shin guards and a soccer ball. Accomplishments

The Baker Boyz senior AA-class softball team, representing Central Bakersfield, went 5-0 to win a national tournament Feb. 8-10 in Polk County, Fla. The Baker Boyz defeated teams from Colorado, St. Louis and Maryland before beating Scrap Iron (Colo. ) 27-17 in the championship game. Top left: Dan Little, John Rhonemus, Marty Wilcox, Rusty Williams, George Freitas, Gary Weichelt, Steve Holman. Bottom left: Richard Estrada, Julio Ruiz, Ray Mascarinas, Rudy Bondietti and John Granillo. Not shown: Ernie Reyes, George Morales and Bobby Soto. Wilcox was honored as the team MVP, and Mascarinas, Weichelt, Estrada, Holman and Freitas were all-tournament selections. Estrada won the home run derby.

The 25-0 Barcelona boys soccer team from AYSO Region 359 continues to steamroll its way through the youth soccer ranks. The team went 10-0 in the fall, 5-0 in a regional tournament, 5-0 in a the Kern County Area A tournament and 5-0 in the Section 10 (25 percent of California) tournament to earn a berth in the state tournament March 16 in Davis. In 30 years of Kern County AYSO, this is the first team to qualify for the state-level competition, Area 10 director Janet Fenton said.
