Local report: Patel tied for lead at Web.com event

BOGATA, Colombia -- Bakersfield native Bhavik Patel shot a 6-under par 65 in Friday's second round of the Colombia Championship to move into a three-way tie at 8-under par in the Web.com Tour event.
Patel, in a 12-way tie for 15th place to open the day after shooting 3-under 68 on Thursday, opened his second round with a par and bogey. He then recorded six birdies over his next 11 holes to reach 5-under on the day. He had a bogey and birdie down the stretch. Patel is tied for the lead with B.J. Staten and Jim Renner.
CSUB swimmer Lange advances to 200 free finals
SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Kelsey Lange became the first Cal State Bakersfield swimmer to advance to an "A" final on day three of the Western Athletic Conference women's swimming championships.
Lange posted the fifth-fastest time in school history (1 minute, 51.19 seconds) in the prelims of the 200 free before coming in eighth in the finals.
Louise Westergren, Nicolette Goncalves and Lily Donohue all qualified for the "B" final in the 100 butterfly. Donohue finished 12th with the fifth-fastest time in school history (56.23). Goncalves was 13th (56.26) while Westergren was 14th (56.39).
Jodi Hanson turned in the second quickest 100 breaststroke time (1:04.59) in the "B" final to earn a 13th place finish. Delise Batiza made it to the "B" final of the 400 IM and placed.
Michaela Paige won the "C" final of the 200 back with a time of 1:50.93, the eighth-fastest time posted during the Friday night session.
CSUB is in eighth (123 points) in the team race. San Jose State (503) leads. The WAC Championships conclude today with prelims beginning at 9 a.m. and the finals getting under way at 4:30 p.m.
Liberty's Lafranchise qualifies for zone diving championships
Lucy Lafranchise, a Liberty High School graduate and freshman diver at UC Davis, qualified for the 2013 NCAA Division I Women's Zone Diving Championships at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., from March 14-16.
Lafranchise will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter events, and in the platform event. Divers who qualify at five Zone meets across the U.S. will advance to the NCAA Division 1 National Championships at the IU Natatorium and the IUPUI Sports Complex in Indianapolis, Ind., on March 21-2.
Hawks re-assign forward to Jam
The Atlanta Hawks re-assigned rookie Mike Scott to the Bakersfield Jam, the Hawks' NBA D-League affiliate. Scott is one of a record 54 NBA players to have been assigned to the NBA D-League this season.
The 6-foot-8, 237-pound rookie out of Virginia has appeared in 25 games for Atlanta. During his previous stint in Bakersfield, he appeared in four game. Scott is expected to be available tonight when the Jam travels to face the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 6:30 p.m.
Cerritos topples BC in softball
CERRITOS -- Catcher Katie Caraballo had a double and a home run to power Cerritos College to a 15-1 victory over Bakersfield College in five innings. The Renegades gave up 11 runs in the second inning and were never able to mount a comeback.
Bakersfield (1-11) will host Ventura College on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
