Bakersfield National Junior Basketball (NJB) registration is open for the Fall/Winter Season. NJB is a non-profit basketball organization for boys and girls grades 3rd-8th. Bakersfield Heat Girls is offering basketball skill building classes for girls in grades 5-11. Classes will include: shooting, passing, dribbling, offensive and defensive footwork, balance and 1-on-1 techniques. The Northwest Bakersfield All-Star team advanced to the Cal Ripken 10U World Series in Bentonville, Ark., with a dramatic victory in the championship game of the Pacific Southwest Regional tournament Saturday in Long Beach. Kobe Silva hit a walk-off, two-run home run with two outs and an 0-2 count in the bottom of the sixth to give Northwest an 8-6 victory over Hawaii. Silva was named tournament MVP, and was joined on the all-tournament team by Mason Moccardini, Elijah Pascual and Nick Salas. The team is planning to leave for the World Series Aug. 8 and currently raising money. Their opening game is Saturday against the Southeast Regional champion.
The Bakersfield Southwest Heat won the PONY Mustang 9-year-old Super Regional championship in Los Alamitos, and then finished third in the West Zone tournament, falling just short of a trip to the World Series.

The Bakersfield Blades FC U12 won the Xtreme Cup tournament, July 21-22, in Huntington Beach. The Blades went 4-0, beating CSA Cypress FC White 4-2, and Platinum FC Vigil from San Bernandino 3-0 on Saturday, and then defeated Crown City United 00/01 from South Pasadena 3-2 in semifinals, before topping Platinum FC Vigil again in the final. Pedro Avila Jr. scored the winning goal in the 15th minute of the second half. The Legacy Fastpitch defeated the Nebraska Nemesis 5-4 on the first day of play at ASA 14U Nationals in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Kaycee Olson pitched a complete game and was 2-for-4 with the game-winning single in the bottom of the 7th. Maricela Romero also had two hits and two RBIs, and Angelina Meza was 2-for-3. Arianna Gooden and Alyssa Breceda contributed with outstanding outfield play. Legacy plays today against the winner of the Oshgosh Raiders and the Georgia Impact game.

Fourteen-year-old Stanzi Moseley had a strong showing Speedo Gold Western Sectional Swim Meet in Santa Clarita, which featured more than 900 swimmers from the Western United States. She reached the finals in three events and qualified for the Junior National Swim Meet in December at the University of Tennessee. Moseley broke the 13- 14-year-old Central California records for the 100 meter freestyle (58.27), which was previously held set Marybeth Linzmeier in 1977 (59.80), who went on to swim for the US National team. Moseley also broke one of the oldest standing 13-14 CCS records in the 100 backstroke (1:07.07), previously set by Holidae Vig in 1975 (1:07.50). Moseley swims for Bakersfield Aquatics Club under the direction of head coach Charlie Pike.
Han’s Taekwondo Academy had a strong finish at the Central California Juniors Championship. Academy students won 18 gold medals, two silver, and six bronze medals. Julian Esposo, Jasmine Arevalo, Sidney Cyrus and Eric Martinez won double gold medals in forms and sparring. Joseph Becera won gold in forms and silver in sparring. Jacob Becera and Romi Cyrus won gold in forms and bronze in sparring. Rodrigo Maldonado and Delbert Hake earned bronze in forms and gold in sparring. Jennifer Dooley, Amanda Alvarez, Tyler Napier and Christine Bonoan earned gold in their sparring divisions. Dean Arevalo and Coby Nguyen won bronze in sparring.
