Baseball

8U Bullets are holding open tryouts for players interested in joining our team. Player cannot turn 9 years old before April 30. We are looking for the right player. We have open spots on our club for more info please email gregRtorres@gmail.com or call Greg (661) 703-6529.

Cheerleading

Golden Empire Football Spartans are taking registration for their cheer team (ages 7-14, prior to Nov. 15), 10 a.m.-noon, May 4 and May 18 at Madison Grove Park on Norris Road. Needed at registration: completed registration form, parent agreement form, original and two copies of birth certificate. Flag football

Youth Football

Midwest Spartans tryouts at Almondale Park on successive Tuesdays (today-April 30) and Thursdays through May 2 at 5:30 p.m.

North West Falcons tryouts (Centennial High district) are continuing Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Norris Middle School, 6-8 p.m. Contact Dante Borradori (661) 204-5062.

Far West Freedom tryouts (Liberty High district), at Liberty Park (corner of Brimhall Road and Jewetta Ave.), Tuesday from 6-8 p.m., and Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Ages 8-14. Contact Sean Lozano at (661) 578-9184.

Golf

19th annual Coyote Club/Stephen Neal fundraiser tournament, Saturday at Buena Vista Golf Course. Entry fee: $80. For more information, call Joe Smart (661) 703-4313 or Mike Stricker (661) 589- 3311.

Shafter High Boosters’ 28th annual General Open Saturday at North Kern Golf Course. A modified shotgun start with 4-man best-ball scrambles is the format. Proceeds benefit Shafter student-athletes. Contact Gary Pederson or Doug Thompson at (661) 746-4961.

Volleyball

21st Annual Golden Volleyball Camp, July 30–Aug. 2, noon-3 p.m. For Incoming freshmen and eighth graders and younger. Camp will be coached by Centennial High coaches Brooke Roberts, Penny Roberts, Lacey (Roberts) Coppolo, MacKenzie Maxwell, Lauren Alexander, Molly Hansen and Kim Roberts,  along with former Centennial coach Chris Trowbridge and Centennial players who have gone on to play collegiate volleyball. Accomplishments

Six students from the Japan Martial Arts Academy of Bakersfield competed in Saturday’s Fresno Martial Arts Championships in Fresno. The students excelled in the following events: Sam Cole, first in Kata, Kumite and Weapons Kata; Romero Martinez, third Kata, second in Kumite; Denise Ruiz first in Weapons Kata and Kumite; Matthew Ruiz second in Weapons Kata, first in Kata; Jessie Sangha third in Kata and Kumite.
