    The South Valley Thunder SC G97 girls soccer team won the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase this weekend, going 4-0-0 and outscoring their opponents from Santa Rosa, Placer, Castro Valley and Pleasanton 14-1. The team is coached by Jason Carter.

Baseball

The Bakersfield Sound summer college baseball team be honoring local public service agencies (Bakersfield Police Department, Hall ambulance, California Highway Patrol, Kern County Fire department, Bakersfield Fire Department, the Department of Human Services, California Highway Patrol and Kern County Search and rescue) before its Saturday (July 27) playoff game. These agencies will display vehicles such as rescue equipment, police cars, fire engines, medical vehicles and more. In addition, there will be representatives to answer questions and interact with fans. The game will start at 6:45 p.m.

Softball

Bustos Elite 12U is forming a new team, with tryouts Aug. 3-4 at Stockdale High. Pitchers and catchers start at 9 a.m., with all others starting at 10 a.m. The tryout is scheduled to end at 1 p.m. Contact: bustoselite2001@gmail.com.

Soccer

WSYSL Summer Soccer Camp, 9-11 a.m. Today-Aug. 1 at A St. Park in Taft. Instruction from Myisha Cutrona, former semi-pro player and collegiate level coach. All participants must wear soccer cleats and shin guards. Ages 6-16. Registration deadline: July 18. Fee: $45 per person  (includes Tt-shirt). Contact: Westside Parks and Recreation District. Volleyball

Mini-League coed 16-and older, in Taft. Each team plays one night per week. Two games per night. Roster minimum of five players, maximum of 10. Monday nights, 6:30 p.m. at Aera Gymnasium, through Aug. 26. Fee: $50 per team. Call (661) 765-6677.

The Golden Volleyball Camp is back for its 21st edition from July 30-Aug. 2 at Centennial High School. The camp is open to incoming freshmen and younger, with separate courts for beginners, intermediate players and advanced players. The camp runs from noon-3 p.m. each day. Instructors are Centennial High coaches Brooke Roberts, Penny Roberts, Lacey (Roberts) Coppolo, MacKenzie Maxwell, Lauren Alexander, Molly Hansen and Kim Roberts, plus former Centennial coach Chris Trowbridge and Golden Hawks alumnae who have played collegiately. Baseball

The Bakersfield Southwest 13U All-Star team advanced to the PONY baseball Pony-13 World Series with a 7-1 victory over Long Beach in the championship game of the West Zone Super Regionals, Wednesday night in Fullerton. The team defeated Los Alamitos 19-1, Ramona 14-1, Orangecrest 8-5 and Lakeside 5-4 to advance to the title game. The team opens play in the World Series against Puerto Rico, 4 p.m. Friday, at Amerige Park in Fullerton. The team: Cory Blackburn, Carson Bryant, Luke Fringer, Zach Griffin, Jared Lubatti, Andre Martinez, Easton McMurray, Sean Mullen, Jalen Smith, Ronnie Stapp and Jack Tobias. Head coach: Brock McMurray. Assistant coaches: Sean Mullen and Ray Blackburn.

The Bakersfield Assault, representing Bakersfield Southwest Baseball, went 4-0 to win the PONY baseball SoCal North Region Bronco championship at Aera Park. The team defeated Santa Susana 12-3 in the title game. Bakersfield plays Chino Hills at 5 p.m. today in the Super Regionals at York Field in Whittier with a chance to advance to the West Zone tournament. The team: Jordan Heredia, Jacen Roberson, AJ Torres, Vincent Moroyouqui, James Melendez, Caden Sheedy, Gabriel Davison, Hunter Ratekin, Ruben Barron, Robert Morales III and Jacob Perez. Coaches: Mark Ratekin, Joe Perez and Robert Morales jr.

Martial arts

Japan Martial Arts Academy of Bakersfield had a strong showing at the Battle of the Dojos Karate tournament in Hanford this weekend.
