Announcements

Baseball

The Bakersfield Sound summer college baseball team be honoring local public service agencies (Bakersfield Police Department, Hall ambulance, California Highway Patrol, Kern County Fire department, Bakersfield Fire Department, the Department of Human Services, California Highway Patrol and Kern County Search and rescue) before its July 27 playoff game. These agencies will display vehicles such as rescue equipment, police cars, fire engines, medical vehicles and more. In addition, there will be representatives to answer questions and interact with fans. The game will start at 6:45 p.m.

Bowling

Sunday (July 21): 2nd annual Bud Hannaman Memorial Tournament, 1 p.m., Regency Lanes.  Four gamer, $40 entry fee (before Jul. 21). Two divisions: Seniors (55 and older) and regular (includes high rollers). Handicap tournament (80-percent of 220). For information, contact Russ (661) 303-2007 or Gary (661) 302-7630.

July 25:  Brunswick Open Practice Session, AMF Southwest Lanes, 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Open to adult and youth bowlers looking to purchase a new Brunswick/DV8 ball.  No fee.

July 28: Amateur Bowlers Tour (ABT) Tournament, Vista Lanes, Palmdale.

Golf

20th Annual Santa Maria Valley Amateur Men’s Championship, July 27-28 at Rancho Maria Golf Club. 36 holes, stroke play, two handicap flights and a scratch flight. Entry fee: $175 ($200 after July 20). Call (805) 937-2019 for details.

Soccer

WSYSL Summer Soccer Camp, 9-11 a.m. July 23-Aug. 1 at A St. Park in Taft. Instruction from Myisha Cutrona, former semi-pro player and collegiate level coach. All participants must wear soccer cleats and shin guards. Ages 6-16. Registration deadline: July 18. Fee: $45 per person  (includes Tt-shirt). Contact: Westside Parks and Recreation District. Volleyball

Mini-League coed 16-and older, in Taft. Each team plays one night per week. Two games per night. Roster minimum of five players, maximum of 10. Monday nights, 6:30 p.m. at Aera Gymnasium, through Aug. 26. Fee: $50 per team. Call (661) 765-6677.

The Golden Volleyball Camp is back for its 21st edition from July 30-Aug. 2 at Centennial High School. The camp is open to incoming freshmen and younger, with separate courts for beginners, intermediate players and advanced players.

The camp runs from noon-3 p.m. each day. Instructors are Centennial High coaches Brooke Roberts, Penny Roberts, Lacey (Roberts) Coppolo, MacKenzie Maxwell, Lauren Alexander, Molly Hansen and Kim Roberts, plus former Centennial coach Chris Trowbridge and Golden Hawks alumnae who have played collegiately.

Accomplishments

Baseball

Wasco Little League’s 12-year-old All-Stars went 4-1 with wins over Buttonwillow, Delano and Arvin to win the District 61 title July 9. The team is managed by Rene Salazar. Assistants are Sean Rodriguez and Eddie Gereke. Players: Tommy Armendariz, Jonathan Cabrera, Cesar Contreras, Joshua Deleon, Chris Gereke, Dre Hankins, Connor Kelley, Isaac Ochoa, Arturo Romero, Claudio Salinas, Gabriel Salazar, Sawyer Steward and Zane Williams.

The Bakersfield Assault, representing Bakersfield Southwest Baseball, went 4-1 this weekend in Simi Valley to win the PONY baseball Bronco division section championship. Bakersfield beat Rancho Santa Susana 3-1, with a great pitching performance by Jacob Perez and Ruben Barron. Two-run home runs by Robert Morales and Perez gave the Assault a lift offensively. The team: Jordan Heredia, Jayson Roberson, AJ Torres, Vincent Moroyoqui, James Melendez, Caden Sheedy, Gabriel Davison, Hunter Ratekin, Ruben Barron, Robert Morales and Jacob Perez.

Softball

The Bakersfield Bobby Sox 10U All-Stars went undefeated to win the La Mirada Regional Tournament this weekend and qualified for a berth to Nationals in Madera later this month. They outscored their opponents 39-9 and every player had at least a hit and scored a run. The team: Jezelle LyBurtus, Allie Wellman, Seidy Morua, Serenity Ovando, Mya Moreno, Britney Sanchez, Lindsey Hardin, Rylee Price, Shelby Hernandez, Monique LyBurtus, Tianna Gonzalez. Manager: Nora Cardenas. Chaperone: Ana Ovando. Coaching staff: Jess Morua, David Hernandez, Sas Price. Practice coach: Mike Barron.

The Bakersfield Bobby Sox 12U took first place at this weekend’s Regional tournament in La Mirada. The team: Emily Garcia, Kaitlin Woods, Sydney Barnes, Avi Campos, Isabella Galindo, Caitlyn Enriquez, Sunny Phillips, Morgan Holguin, Haile Calderon, Cindy Sanchez, Taylor Hardin and Amy Reyes. Coaching staff: Tomas Galindo, Jim Woods, Ignacio Holguin. The team is managed by Kara Phillips with Melissa Holguin as chaperone.
