    The Bakersfield Heat Premier girls varsity basketball team went 3-0, including an overtime victory in the finale Saturday in the Apple Valley Shootout. The team, which features five 8th graders and five high schoolers, is 13-3 in the spring travel season.     Five boys (pictured, l-r) from Bakersfield will be representing Southern California this weekend playing with the Olympic Development Program (ODP) in Ventura: Defender Roberto Ramirez, midfielders Joe Blancarte, Luke Tovar and Carson Olivas, and goalie John Pulskamp. Their team will play against teams from Washington, Texas, Colorado, and Northern California. These players, who are coached in Bakersfield by Ray Sanders, were chosen out of 110 players from Southern California to attend the Memorial Day tournament.

Golf

Junior clinic for boys, girls, 9-10:30 a.m., June 4-8 at Kern River Golf Course. Coversfundamentals, basic rules and course etiquette. Bring clubs or clubs can be provided. No registration required. Attend any of the sessions. Clinic is free.

Arvin City Amateur Championship, May 26-27, Sycamore Canyon Golf Course. Entry is $90 and includes a Friday practice round after 1 p.m. Championship/handicapped flights. Call Sycamore Canyon pro shop (661) 854-3163, Registration deadline is 1 p.m. May 25. This tournament is the first of the six Michelob Ultra/Sports Authority Player of the Year Series events.
