Fishing
23rd Annual Isabella Lake Fishing Derby, with $250,000 in prizes is set for March 31-April 2. Applications are available at the Kern River Valley Chamber of Commerce office, several local merchants in the Kern River Valley, as well as in Bakersfield. More information is online at isabellafishingderby.com. Enter before 6 p.m. March 1 to be eligible for a $500 early bird prize.

Ethan Cloyd of Bakersfield, who plays baseball for the Santa Ynez Titans, was chosen by Travel Ball Select as an "11U player to watch in 2012." Travel Ball Select ranks the travel teams in the United States. The Titans, made up of some of the top players in the Central Coast region, are ranked No. 6 nationally. Two other Bakersfield players, Kaden Sheedy and Conagher Sands, also play for the Titans. In July, the Titans will be play in a tournament in Atlanta for the top 16 ranked Travel teams.

Jeremy Ramirez scored three tries as the Kern County Rugby Football Club battled its way to a 48-39 victory over the Santa Barbara Grunions on Saturday.
With five games left in the season, the Tuskers improved to 3-1 and are in sole possession of third place in the Southern California Rugby Football Union Football Division II standings.
After opening scoring at the 10-minute mark, the Grunions (1-3-1) closed out the first 40 minutes with their third try, but Kern County's Ramirez, Justin Jackson and Lucas Ramos combined for six tries to give the Tuskers a 36-22 halftime lead.
A pair of early second-half tries got the Grunions within two, but Ramirez competed the hat trick in the 70th minute, before Marcus Felix extended the Tuskers' lead to 14 points with five minutes remaining.
The Tuskers will play at Eagle Rock at 1 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 25).
Diving
Sophomore Jacob Tittl of the University of La Verne placed fourth in the 1-meter dive and fifth in the 3-meter at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Diving Championship finals at the University of Redlands' Thompson Aquatic Center. Tittl, who performed 11 dives from each height, Tittl scored 392.85 at 1 meter, and 352.75 at 3 meters.
