Selene Torres was named student of the month at Han's Taekwondo Academy for her third-place finish at the Junior World Championship Trials. Torres carries a 4.0-plus grade point average at Wasco High School.
Daniel Schoene, a seventh grader at Tevis Junior High, recently won two prestigious wrestling meets. He placed first at 205 at both the El Dorado Hills Invitational (Jan. 7) in the Sacramento area and at the Lyman Gilmore Invitational (Jan. 21) in Grass Valley. Schoene, who also has placed at the Jr. Chukchansi Tournament and at the California Republic Tournaments, is ranked No. 7 in the recent junior high state rankings.
The Ultimate Cheer Allstars Senior Coed team won the championship and the Youth Green team placed second at the American Masterpiece Championships on Saturday and Sunday in San Jose. The teams are coached by Ami Stephens, Monique Carmona, Shelly Rodriguez, and Desmond Ramey. Tumbling is coached by Antoine Lashua.
Antonio Moreno, 11, will be competing in age 10-11, 80-pound division of the Silver Gloves boxing nationals Feb. 1-5 in Kansas City, Mo. Moreno, who has been boxing since he was 8, trains at the Refuse to Lose Boxing Club. He attends El Camino Real School in Arvin. Moreno won the Central California title in November, then competed for the state title in El Monte in December, followed by The Region Eight Silver Gloves Tournament (six states were represented) in Pasadena.

Tennis
Bakersfield Racquet Club will be running a six- week "Tennis In No Time" instructional program. The six-week course will cover tennis fundamentals, tactics and strategies. The first four weeks focus on lessons and drills, and the last two weeks are set up for league play. The cost of the six week experience is $40. The program starts Wednesday and will meet weekly from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through Feb. 29. For more information or to sign up, visit the club at 1660 Pine St., or call (661) 325-8652. Softball
4th Annual Anthony Blanco Memorial Tournament Jan. 28 in Taft. Coed tourney Jan. 29 in Taft. Three-game guarantee. Entry fee: $200 before Jan. 27 or $225 day-of.
