Baseball
A "Play With a Pro" poker tournament fundraiser for the new Bakersfield Sound collegiate summer baseball team is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 19 at Golden West Casino, 1001 S. Union Ave. Participants will have an opportunity to mingle and play poker with about 12 current and former Major League players such as Colby Lewis, Brent Morel, Phil Dumatrait, Butch Hobson, George Culver and Junior Kennedy. The event also will include a memorabilia auction. Cost is $150 per person. The Sound is a non-profit organization. Revenue will be used for operating expenses. Bowling
Annual Team Life & Marge's Bowl-a-Thon for Relay for Life, 1 p.m. Saturday at Regency Bowling Center. Signups, taken until 12:30 the day of the event, are $15 per person, and there will be four-person teams. Individuals can be placed on a team. Bowl three games. Door prizes, 50-50 drawing. Youth tackle football
Jack Frost League early sign-ups 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Feb. 2 at Saunders Park. Players entering grades 6, 7, 8 at the start of the 2013 school year are eligible. Registration fee is $150. Contact: Coach Jeff (661) 303-1663.
Girls youth softball
Last Bobby Sox sign-ups, 10 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Jan. 19 at Ellis Island Pizza Co., SW corner of Stockdale Highway and Real Road in the Wild West Shopping Center. Cost is $150 for the 8U-18U divisions and $125 for 6U division, plus a $40 refundable snack bar deposit per girl in the 6U division only. Price of sign-ups includes registration, basic picture package, uniform shirt, socks, visor and secondary insurance. Must have child's doctor and insurance information to sign up. First-time players must bring a copy of their birth certificate.
Bakersfield Amateur Softball Association Girls League signups for spring session are set for 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays (Jan. 16, 23) at the BASA fields (Rosedale North Park, 3635 Jewetta Ave., Bakersfield, 93312) and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday (Jan.19). Fees are $100 for the 6U division and $135 for 8U, 10U, 12U, 15U divisions. Girls playing in 10U, 12U, 15U division must be rated on their hitting, fielding and throwing skills. Girls intending to pitch or catch must also be rated for those skills. Please make sure the player is present when registering, dressed in appropriate attire and have her bring equipment such as glove, helmet, bat.
