Motor sports
Bronson Pearce, a 16-year-old junior at Highland High, races in the Sttars Super TT American Race Series. Pearce was leading the 450cc premier class going into the ninth and final round at Perris on Nov. 18, but as he was entering the track for a heat race he crashed on loose gravel on the pavement, and suffered a broken wrist. However, he had the wrist wrapped, which enabled him to enter the main event and give him enough points to win the series championship. Pearce has been racing since age 4.
Basketball
Tevis Junior High went 5-0 to capture the 8th-grade division championship Friday in the Wendale Davis Foundation boys basketball tournament at Stonecreek Junior High. Tevis defeated Ollivier twice, Thompson and Beardsley before beating Stonecreek, 46-33, in the title game. Tevis’ Alec Check was named tournament MVP and Ronnie Stapp earned all-tournament honors. The team: coach Louis Pumphrey, Jesse Gilbert, Aubrey Jones, Dupree Phillips, Stevie Figures, Zion White, Ronnie Stapp, Alec Check, Nick Neilson, assistant Derek Check.
