    Basketball Universe Academy is planning a grand opening Sept. 23 at its new facility on 5880 District Boulevard. It's fall developmental league will begin there on Oct. 1.     The Kern County Athletic All-stars sent 16 athletes to the AAU Junior Olympics track and field meet in Houston and earned four medals. Joshua Ryan placed third in the Young Men’s 3,000 meter race walk, Pedro Cruz (14) placed fifth in the 3,000 meters, Moises Medrano (12) placed seventh in the 1500, and the boys 12-year-old 4x800 relay team (pictured, l-r) of Jose Colotl, Adam Teasdale, Trenton Ferguson, Medrano and alternate Tony Hernandez was seventh. The KCAA team had 14 top-25 finishes in the meet. The team’s results:

    The Bobby Sox 18U All Star team placed third place in the national tournament in Vacaville July 28-29. L-R: Alejandra Gonzalez, Savannah Melton, Jocelyn Reyes, Chelsea Fitzpatrick, Katherine Ramirez, Shailee Lundy, Arion Billings, Randi Hollie, and Krista Richardson. The team was coached by Tony Melton, John Lundy, Danny Reyes.

    The Bakersfield Yard Dogs went 4-0 in the Sherman Oaks Best of the West Valley Classic. The team: Cash Froehlich, Jacob Porter, Jaxton Santiago, Shawn Petty, Kale Gillenwater, Johnnie Ray Lee, Seth Plemmons, Toby Twist, Brock Thompson and Matthew Torres.

    Han's Taekwondo's Elite Wrestling Program participated at the SCWAY Wrestiling Summer Throwdown Aug. 4 at Golden Valley High School. Albert Urias won his division, John Bordon took second, and Dillon Talkington and Nate Espicuerta placed third in their respective divisions.

The Bakersfield Heat Girls Basketball Club is offering basketball skill building classes for girls in grades 5-11. Classes will include shooting, passing, dribbling, offensive and defensive footwork, balance and 1-on-1 techniques. 6-7:30 p.m.Tuesdays, Thursdays, Aug. 14-Oct. 25 at Lakeside School, 14535 Old River Rd., Bakersfield, 93311. Girls can sign up any time between Aug. 14-Oct. 16. Travel Team selection will be on Aug. 23
