19th annual Santa Maria Valley Men's Amateur Golf Championship, July 28-29. 36 holes stroke play with a scratch flight and two handicap flights. Softball
Think you can hit a top-level softball pitcher? If you have an extra $20, you can take your chances Saturday against former Centennial High, UCLA and USA pitcher Megan Langenfeld, who is helping to raise money for the Legacy 14U softball team, which earned a berth into the ASA National tournament, July 30-Aug. 5 in Sioux Falls, S.D., and is raising money for travel expenses. $20 will get you 10 swings against Langenfeld. Hit the fence and you get your $20 back. Hit a home run, and get your $20 back, plus an extra $20. The fundraiser will start at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the BC softball field. Andrew Ariey won the "Rock to Pier" 10K run in Morrow Beach. His time was 30.10. He came in first out of 900 competiters. He was just 1 minute off the record set by Olympian Billy Nelson.
