The J1S Camp Elite is hosting a Summer Sports Camp for Bakersfield youth ages 7-13 at North Rosedale Park on the corner of Jewetta and Meacham. Boys and girls are welcome to attend regardless of their skill levels. The Camp is facilitated by chief program director and coach Sterling Jones, and chief program consultant and coach Tim Martin. Bakersfield Sound-So Cal Catch Youth Baseball Clinic July 20, includes instruction by collegiate coaches and players, lunch, character values and ticket to Bakesfield Sound-vs.-So Cal Catch game. Clinic runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Bakersfield Christian High School, 12775 Stockdale Hwy. Cost: $25.

The Bakersfield Northwest 10U All-Stars recently won the Cal Ripken Central California District 5 Championship, going 4-0 in the tournament. The team now is playing in the Central California State Tournament in Bakersfield. The team: Coaches John Sacco, Matthew Riley and Brock Allison, and players: Asher Allison, Daniel Felix, Joshua Reiswig, Xabi Iparraguirre, Milo Villalobos, Trent Wanagitis, Bryson Hankins, Landon Riley, Giancarlo Sacco, Griffen Scarry, Edwin Solis and Alan Feria.
South Valley Thunder SC G97, coached by Jason Carter, went 2-0-1 to win its bracket in the prestigious SoCal Summer Showcase tournament at Cal Poly Pomona on the weekend of June 29. The Thunder outscored its opponents 6-3.
The Nitro 14U softball team placed second at the NSA State Championships 14B tournament, going 5-3 over the weekend and outscoring opponents 40-20. The team: Coach Jason Boyer, Cleo Bailey, Sierra Moore, coach Kristen Fuentez, coach Nick Fuentez, Aymee Broome, coach Brad Evertse, Marissa Martin, Lindsey Clayton, Kyra LeRoy, Tiana Jacquez, Sierra Gabbert, Michele Lizalde, Juliana Rodriguez and Kieren Lopez.
Track and field
Kelly McGiffney of Bakersfield won her age division Saturday at the USA Track and Field Region 14 Junior Olympics at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill with a mark of 128 feet, 1 inch. McGiffney qualified for National Junior Olympics in the Girls 17-18 Division. During the CIF season, Kelly competes for Bakersfield Christian High School. She was first team all-South Sequoia League in 2012 and 2013.
