    Bustos Elite 14U won First place in the Bakersfield Fastpitch Fever tournament April 27 & 28 at Mesa Marin Sports Complex. Bustos Elite was 4-1-1 over the weekend and went 3-0 on Championship Sunday. Top row left to right: Coach Albert Martinez. Baseball

Basketball

BUA Summer Day Camp, weekly sessions offered July 1-Aug. 2, boys and girls, grades 1 through age 11, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Open registration set for Saturday (May 11). Sports development (various sports), crafts, performing arts, group games, etc. Registration for the summer developmental basketball league that runs June 24-Aug. 10 will also be available. Philippine Weekend Invitational Basketball Tournament in Delano, July 26-28. Trophies will be awarded for first and second. There are several divisions available to participate in: Heritage (6-feet-2 and under, Filipino Descent), open class, high school varsity boys; and high school varsity girls. Entry fee must be paid in advance. Deadline to sign up is July 13. Heritage and Open Class divisions are $300; high school divisions are $175. Format will be a three-game minimum. Pool play followed by bracket play. Tournament will follow NFSH/CIF rules with exceptions or highlights. Boxing

The 19th Annual Battle of the Badges boxing matches, pitting an assortment of local fire, police, sheriff’s, California Highway Patrol and corrections officers, is set for 7 p.m. Saturday (May 11) at Bakersfield College. The event, presented by Budweiser and the Bakersfield Police Activities League, is a fundraiser for the Bakersfield PAL. General admission tickets are $20 apiece, and ringside seats are $40. Tickets are available at the PAL Center, 301 E. 4th St. in Bakersfield, Bakersfield Police Department Westside Substation, the BPD downtown and Mr. Tuxedo (2409 Brundage Lane). Golf

First annual Footwork Elite “Hoop Dreams” tournament, 4-person scramble format, June 15 at Buena Vista Golf Course. Entry fee: $300 for a team of 4; $80 for single players. Registration at 7 a.m., shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Cost includes green fees, cart, lunch and entry into closest to pin and long drive contest. To secure a spot, contact Ron at (661) 817-4325.

Softball

The National Softball Association (NSA) in association with the Worth Westside Bullets Softball Club will be holding NSA girls youth fastpitch tournaments, ages 10-18, the following dates at the Mesa Marin Softball Complex: Aug. 24-25, Fun in the Sun Tournament; Oct. 5-6 Pretty in Pink/Cancer Awareness Tournament. Bustos Elite 14U won first place in the Bakersfield Fastpitch Fever tournament, April 27-28 at the Mesa Marin Sports Complex. Bustos Elite was 4-1-1 over the weekend and went 3-0 on the final day of the tournament.
